When One Leg is Longer than the Other

Updated: Aug 2, 2023

one leg longer than the other - before and after pic

I was told when I was young that I have one leg that is longer than the other, and that it might cause me some difficulty as I grow up.

What was missed is that my bones are not different in length left to right. What looks like a longer leg is a leg whose joints are not properly aligned, which creates the perception of one leg being longer.

They were right about it causing issues, though. When ‘one leg is longer than the other’, one hip sits higher than the other, the pelvis sits tilted to the side, which means your spine has to make sideways curves to compensate for that imbalance - enter scoliosis.

So imagine my surprise, when I start working on my posture and find out my two legs are not a different length at all!

The before picture was taken before doing my posture alignment exercises of the day, the second one after. That is how quickly legs can ‘change their length’ and create a stable and balanced base for the upper body.
